Narrative

Because of My Family

“I can’t believe it! We are going on a family trip to the east coast!” I have been waiting for this day to come since I was born. When my family was going on a family trip to the east coast I couldn’t get it off my mind. The reason for this is that the last time that I went on a trip was about 3 years before. My whole family was really excited.
“When are we going?” See told you.

The morning of the trip all that happened before we left was… when are we going on the trip? Or how much longer until we go? When we got to the airport it was kind of blaw, it was really boring.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” The reason that it was so boring was because we had to wait about three hours before we can get on the plane. We also couldn’t wander around which I can understand because what if we get lost? When we got on the plane we were all so excited.
“Grandma! Grandpa!” we all dashed to them like we were running a three mile race with the speed of a jet.
“Our grandchildren are here,” they exclaimed.
“We are so pleased to see you,” my parents stated.
“Let’s go to our house,” my grandparents replied. When we got to our grandparent’s house we saw some of our cousins there. Hi we said as we stomped down the stairs to our room were we stayed.
When we left Baltimore to go to New, Jersey the ride took forever. When we got there we saw some more of our cousins. The next day we went to get donuts. The donuts were so fresh and sweet.
“Can I have another donate?” After that we went to the candy store. The candy was so tasty, crunchy, and creamy.
After about two days in New, Jersey we journeyed off to New, York. When we arrived we grabbed our suit cases and charged into the house. Once again… more cousins. They were so pleased to see us. After all we came all this way to see them and other cousins. Later we saw a swimming pool in the backyard. We asked,
“Can we go in the pool?”
“In the morning,” are cousins said. After we spent the night, in the morning we all darted the pool in their backyard. I must have gone off the diving board at least a hundred times.
“You call that a cannonball!” Splash! It was so much fun. Before we left to go to Boston we thanked our cousin for the really fun and wonderful time we had with them.
When we go to Boston at night everyone was so tired, so right when we went to our room we all dozed off. Us kids in my family had to share a room which I have to do at home; at least we didn’t have to share beds.
One day when we woke up our cousins asked us,
“Hey guys do you want to go outside and toss the baseball around?”
“Sure,” we replied. Our cousins had this machine thing that throws baseballs at you and you have to try to hit the balls. We also played an intense baseball game. We all made some big plays in the game to give the game a big boost. Playing baseball with our cousins was really fun. Later when we all came inside sweating we played a game on the computer which my cousin was really good at. The way you play is that you go around in a car making lines behind wherever you went. If your car bangs into a line you lose. My cousin won, I don’t know how many times. Playing with our cousins in any game was really fun.
One day when I was playing I broke my cousin’s thing that he was building. My cousin was building some sort of house kind of thing that he was making out of blocks. The blocks can fall down pretty easily, but not that easily. If you push on it hard or bang into it, it can fall down, and that is exactly what happened to me. You might say and I am sure you will say that it is completely my fault. It kind of is my fault but not completely my fault. This might not make sense to you but it’s true.
“Yes it is!”
“No it’s not! You built it in the way so we can’t even get through,” I said angrily.
“Yes!”
“No!” I will tell you the truth. Number one… he built it in the way, and number two is that he built it at the beginning of the hallway. I scrambled to my room. It happened to be that the same thing happened to my brother. We were both so furious.
While I was still in my room everyone else was at the park, so I decided to go along too.
At the park my mind forgot about what had happened. I made some new friends at the park and we had a blast playing basketball together.
“Nice shot,” I said to one of my new friends.
“Thanks,” my friend replied.
My new friends were both brothers who live in the house across the street from where family was staying. I can tell that they were both about two-three years apart from each other in age. I even wanted to get back together while we were there. Too bad we didn’t have the chance to.
I decided to ignore my cousin and try not to break his things again. I should have explained to him what had happened but I just didn’t have the courage to tell him. That trip was really fun and I want to go on another. When you have fun you should make sure that you don’t get carried away, like what happened to me and my cousin; because you can get in big trouble.

Literary Essay

Because of Winn-Dixie Literary Essay

In the story Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiComillo, most people need friends to be happy in life. In the beginning of the story Opal leaves her friends behind, she feels sad and wants to go back to her friends. When Opal met Winn-Dixie, later on Winn-Dixie helped Opal get new friends. When people help each other it makes them feel good and happy. Opal and Winn-Dixie change each other’s life, and make each other happy.
Winn-Dixie helped Opal get friends to make her happy in her new home. When Opal met Gloria Dump, it all started when Winn-Dixie ran into Gloria’s garden and made friends with her. Another thing that you might consider is, since Winn-Dixie is a dog and he didn’t have a collar Opal wanted to buy Winn-Dixie a collar she had to work for Otis, who worked at the pet shop because she didn’t have enough money to buy Winn-Dixie. In other words, just like before Opal got another friend. After a few days at a certain time, when Mrs. Franny thought that Winn-Dixie was a bear, Opal helped her realize that Winn-Dixie was a not a bear he was just a dog. With Winn-Dixie Opal made many new friends.
Opal and the preacher try to help Winn-Dixie, and helping people makes them feel better and more happy. When Opal went to the store and saw that Winn-Dixie messed up the store, she took Winn-Dixie home because she cared about Winn-Dixie and did not want him to go to the pound. The preacher always reminds Opal of turtles because they hide in their shells, and the preacher acted like that until the Winn-Dixie ran away he started to take action and tried to help Opal find him.
With all of Opal’s new friends Opal start a party, and parties are fun. When Opal was reading a book to Gloria, in the story they were talking about a party and that gave them the idea to start their own party, and just like I said before, parties are fun and make people happy. Gloria was nice to have the party at her house. Gloria helped Opal set up the decorations and the food to make people happy and know that they are at a real party. When Otis was playing his music, everyone heard someone sneeze and when nobody sneezed Otis went upstairs and found Winn-Dixie. More importantly, when Opal came home and saw Winn-Dixie she was really happy and so grateful to see Winn-Dixie.

In Because of Winn-Dixie there is no question about it; Opal needs friends to be happy in life. When Opal and Winn-Dixie get to know each other it connects to my life because I have to get to know the person before I can judge them. In the story when Opal met Gloria Dump, Gloria had bad eye site but Opal accepted Gloria exactly how she is as a friend. The story also connects to my life a little because my family is enough for me but I also need friends to be happy in life just like Opal. In Because of Winn-Dixie Opal and Winn-Dixie change each other’s life and heart by helping each other and other people.

The Moral of the Story

The Big Friendly Giant.

In the book the BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) by Roald Dahl the BFG Helps Sophie. In the story when the BFG and Sophie became friends they both stopped the other mean giants from eating children. If Sophie and the BFG didn't meet they never would have stopped the giants, and all of the children would have been eaten up.

I think that the moral of the story is to help your friends and other people when they need the help. For example, just like I said before if Sophie and the BFG didn't help each other they never would have stopped the giants. I think that if people work together and try, almost anything is possible.

Do you agree with me?
Would you have tried to stop the other giants with another giant friend?

Mrs. Franny's Littmus Lozenges

Littmus Lozenges
In the book Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiComillo Mrs. Franny compares Littmus Lozenges to life. Mrs. Franny told a story to Amanda and Opal. The story was about Mrs. Franny's relative named Littmus Block. Littmus Block had to go to war when he was just a boy. When he came home from war his family was dead. He wanted to make a sweat candy but also tasted sorrow because of his loss. And that candy is named Littmus Lozenge. You can taste the sweetness but you can't taste the sorrow taste unless you have had something sad in your life.
I agree with Mrs. Franny because in the book Because of Winn-Dixie Opal loses her mom and has to leave all of her friends behind when she moves away. Even though I don't think that anything sad has happened to me in my life I still agree with Mrs. Franny. I hope that nothing sad will ever happen to me, and I hope that nothing sad will happen to anyone else.
Has anything sad ever happened to you?
Do you agree with Mrs. Franny?

Because of Winn-Dixie

Because of Winn-Dixie
In the book Winn-Dixie The preacher (opals dad) never really paid attention to life. In the book it said that the preacher reminded Opal of a turtle that hides inside its shell, at least the preacher was nice enough to let Opal keep Winn-Dixie. In the story it says that Opal's mom left when she was really young, so that might be a reason that the preacher was trying to hide inside his shell.

Latter on in the book when Winn-Dixie ran away, which they thought he did even though he didn't run away. It surprised me because he always acts up when there is a thunder storm. The preacher helped Opal try to find Winn-Dixie. The preacher changed by doing that. I wonder if the preacher let the past go and is focusing on the future.
Have you ever read the book Because of Winn-Dixie?
Has something ever happened to you like the preacher?

Hebrew Book Reports

Hebrew Book Report

In Hebrew class at school we are reading books that at the end they have a moral. For example, in one of the stories there is a rabbit and a turtle. At the beginning of the story every other animal besides the turtle says that the rabbit is the fastest animal in the world, so the rabbit and the turtle raced. In the middle of the story the rabbit sees the turtle is really slow and is not even close to the end. The rabbit chooses to take a little rest break. At the end of the story the rabbit wakes up but the turtle already won the race. So the moral of the story is not to say something before you have done it.

After we read a book we have to write a book report on the book that you read. So let’s say that I read the book that I just talked about. So what you have to do is write the title of the book than write the author and illustrator.  After that you have to write however many pages there are in the book then write however many characters there are. Then like I did telling the story to you, you have to write what happened in the beginning middle and end of the book. After that you draw a picture from any part of the book. We are so excited to be strong Hebrew readers.
